Home on Northport Bay is a 1,400-square-foot, modern lakefront cabin located on 120-feet of private shoreline. This home is nestled between tall cedars on a quiet bay of Lake Michigan with a large, shaded yard, an elevated back deck overlooking the property and the bay, and a sloping boardwalk leading to the water’s edge. This two-story cottage is conveniently located just a mile from the downtown shopping area of Northport, and guests are welcome to use a collection of bikes kept at the property free-of-charge.
The property sits at the end of a dead-end road, offering a low-traffic area for children to play with bikes, roller blades, skate boards, etc. The yard and swimming area are in a direct line of sight from the deck, making it easy for parents to keep an eye on everything.
The home includes a full bath on the main level, a second full bath inside the main-level master bedroom, and an outdoor shower with a privacy curtain and a hand sprayer — perfect for cleaning up after a swim. The kitchen is fully equipped with utensils, dishes and appliances. The great room includes a dining area with seating for up to 12 guests. A second dining area is located on the outdoor patio.
Sleeping arrangements: Home on Northport Bay includes two private bedrooms on the main floor, each furnished with a queen-sized bed. On the upper level, a lofted sleeping area is equipped with a third queen-sized bed and four twins.
Unique Features
Home on Northport Bay offers easy access to the waterfront, unobstructed by grassy dunes. The home’s level lawn leads to a narrow, sandy swimming area complete with sun chairs and a fire pit.
The water is shallow enough to wade for some ways, but does get deep enough to really swim. The home also keeps a water mat in the deeper areas, which is similar to a trampoline. The lake bottom is rocky — we suggest bringing water shoes. An off-shore mooring system is available and can accommodate boats up to 30 feet in length. We also provide a five-person paddle boat.
Things To Do
Northport is a picturesque waterfront town on Lake Michigan with a public boat launch and marina, quaint downtown shopping, scenic hiking and biking trails and excellent local dining. The village is conveniently located right at the tip of a peninsula, making for an easy day trip to visit neighboring towns and attractions such as Leland, Sutton’s Bay, Glen Lake and the Sleeping Bear Dunes.
It is just a 30-minute drive to Traverse City, where guests could plan to attend the annual Film Festival or Cherry Festival. Folks in the bay love being off the main shore, where the water is calm and relatively warm compared to the open water — perfect for swimming and fishing!

Reviews
Our family of six adults had tons of room in this lovely home one mile south of downtown Northport. Walking to town was a beautiful and easy stroll. We parked our kayaks on the beach and could kayak in the bay at a moment's notice. We had wonderful weather and were busy with all the outdoor activities such as hiking the Empire Bluffs Trail, the Dune hike, the area wineries as well as wandering all the great towns such as Northport, Sutton's Bay, Glen Arbor and Traverse City. Loved the town of Northport, the Friday farmer's market, cute shops, Barb's Bakery, and The Mitten microbrewery. The town has a great. slow-paced local feel. The house itself had tons of games and books, if we had needed an inside day, we would have been all set. Lots of lovely outdoor seating in a partially shaded backyard, complete with hammock, tether ball and a water mat. The owner is a pleasure to work with and was always prompt in replying if I had a question leading up to our stay. We were there for a family reunion, along with family in seven other homes and all agreed that this part of Michigan is something special. I especially loved sitting on the lower deck, early in the morning, and watching the beautiful sunrises over the bay. The home is in wonderful shape, the outdoor shower is fantastic, lots of bikes in the shed. We needed another couple of weeks to take full advantage of all that was there! Ohio family, July 2018
Our extended family of nine has returned to this cottage in Northport for five years now, coming from across the United States and even across the Atlantic Ocean for our annual visits. This cottage is perfect for us — it's just one mile from a small Leelanau Peninsula town (not at all overrun by traffic and crowds like other similar places nearby). Our kids ride the cottage's bikes into town on their own; there's a grocery store, a lovely breakfast/lunch restaurant (Tribune), Barb's Bakery for AMAZING donuts, a farmer's market, a brewery, a marina. I could go on and on. The house's location on Northport Bay gives us access to the beauty and open space of the larger Grand Traverse Bay, but minus the winds and waves of Lake Michigan's open water on the other side of the peninsula. The cottage has a small length of sandy beach, and we bring our water shoes for the rocky bottom as we wade out to the swimming pad. :) The cottage is stocked with kitchen supplies, linens and towels, bikes for riding, a LOVELY outdoor shower for washing off sand (so helpful with kids!), two separate decks for watching the sunrise with coffee in the morning, and a fantastic fire pit and chairs for evening s'mores. Northport is close to so many other wonderful spots on the peninsula: the lighthouse, Sleeping Bear Dunes, wineries (our favorite is Green Bird Cellars), Tandem Ciders, raspberry picking, sunsets at Peterson Park. so much to love! About the Owner/Manager
We discovered Northport in the early 80's and found it to be one of the most picturesque and relaxing places around. After years of visiting, we made the decision to purchase our own Northport home in 2006. Though it's a long drive for us, we find it to be worth every minute. The quaint village of Northport and the neighboring towns are the perfect getaway for our family and friends and a great escape from the hectic city. At Home on Northport Bay, we have just the right balance of proximity to town while also enjoying the seclusion of being nestled in the trees. After spending time in other areas, we appreciate being able to use the water and not worry about currents or waves. Calm, peaceful, safe, friendly — and just simply beautiful!
