Lake Odessa has been a vacation destination since the 1800's. The activities and attractions of centuries past haven't changed, with a few new ones added to the mix. Your group will find recreation, refuge, and fun; in a friendly small town atmosphere.
The Beach Cottage is a place to relax, re-group and re-connect. Stay in and play games, soak in the lakeside hot tub, and watch Netflix together. Or go boating, fishing, and swimming; then roast s'mores by the campfire. Saunter next door for some bowling, or a fantastic meal at Buddy's on the Beach. Take a short walk downtown for some antique shopping, followed by a treat at the ice cream shop. Hang out at the park with huge wooden playground on the way back.
There are 2 local companies for pontoon boat rental. Between them, they have several boats, and likely can accommodate your rental needs. Boats can be booked ahead of time to ensure availability if desired, and prices range around 300-450 per day. Ask your host for details.
Use the included paddleboat, 2 stand up paddleboards, and/or 2 kayaks to explore the waters. Kayaks can usually make it through a canal to Tupper Lake, a smaller fishing lake nearby, that has even more shoreline and canals to explore.
Rest comfortably. All beds equipped with locally made, 11 inch-thick Capital Bedding mattresses and locally handcrafted headboards.
Word has it that this is the only property on the lake which boasts a deck that actually extends over the water. And this one-of-a-kind, grandfathered-in, infinity style deck sprawls out to fill the entire backyard.
The public Beach (just steps away) features a sandy lakefront that gently slopes down to the water. A large floating dock has benches for lounging, spots for fishing, and is fun to walk on. The area contained by the floating docks provides a no-boat swimming experience for all ages. The Beach volleyball court is open to the public for impromptu games (volleyball available for you to use). Enjoy snacks from the Dairy Queen at the picnic tables on the Beach.
The Cottage has heat and air conditioning throughout, as well as plenty of windows with screens to open if desired. The flat screen television has Roku, from which you can access our complimentary Netflix account for TV, music, and movies.
Just 15 minutes to the north is Ionia State Recreation Area, a huge 4,500 acre playground for outdoor enthusiasts of nearly any persuasion. There's a river and lake; hiking, mountain biking, dog and horse trails; awesome bird watching; wildflowers galore; and come winter, fantastic sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The Grand River Valley trail runs right through it. It's like being up north in the UP, without the long road trip. And just five minutes east from there is the city of Ionia, offering chain restaurants and big box stores.
The dock is in the water May1-October 1.

5/5 stars. Everything was phenomenal. I really appreciate how clean and organized everything was. Everyone had a great time and we hope to be back during the summer to enjoy the lake. The website you provided with information on local things to do was was very helpful. Buddys on the beach and Meyers hometown bakery were the best parts. Bryan, October, 2022
5/5 stars. First class from start to finish. Had never heard of Lake Odessa until now but we are fans. For a review I don't even know where to start. Accurate listing for sure. Great location, yes. Everything you never even realized you needed at a place until you needed them, yes! Dog towels, come on. Already trying to work out when we can come back. 5 stars does not seem like enough. I've stayed at fancier places but not one that from start to finish was so well thought out. Derek, September 2022
5/5 stars. We loved staying here for a girls weekend. The location is beautiful and so many things to do in walking distance. It was the perfect little getaway. Faith, August 2022
5/5 stars. We loved our stay at Lake Odessa! The house had everything we needed and Jason was a wonderful host! He was willing to answer any questions we had and went above and beyond! Thank you! Kelsey, August 2022
5/5 stars. We loved staying at the cottage for our ladies retreat. The deck and hot tub were wonderful, and we spent a day floating in the lake. It was nice being so close to town/restaurants that we could walk. Even on a rainy Saturday, we were able to enjoy the cottage. There was plenty of space for our group and we especially loved bringing the pups along! We appreciated all of the little personalized touches of the cottage and loved the decor. Stephanie, August 2022
5/5 stars. Our family vacation at Jason's "beach cottage" was everything the listing said it would be. Grandkids LOVED stepping outside the cottage and being able to fish right off the deck. The beds were very comfortable and the large dining table was able to accomodate our group of 10 easily. Jason was right on top of any requests we made! Again, 5 STARS! Robin, July 2022
5/5 stars. What an amazing home away from home! This cottage had everything we could have hoped for and then some! The location is perfect and the deck and hottub were thoroughly enjoyed by my family!! Thank you for an amazing stay! Your attention to detail was top notch. Thank you for an amazing stay! No suggestions, but now every rental I stay at will be compared to yours! Take care. Heidi, May 2022
5/5 stars. Excellent property! Photos are accurate and Jason is a fantastic host. This is a truly dog friendly location and we will be back in the summer! A wintry weekend for us, we still got great views of the frozen lake and got to use the awesome hot tub while the dog walked around on the deck. Very comfortable bed as well! It was awesome Jason!! Thank you! Rian, March 2022

I had always loved that week in Lake Odessa as a child. That time during the summer that we would look forward to for months. We would plan for weeks, and pack for days. It was less than a half an hour drive to Lake O, but it felt like another world to me there. Time slowed down, and everyone seemed to be all about summer fun. My special request every year was to be there when the fair was in town. We could ride our bikes from The Cottage to the fairgrounds, and stop by the gas station on the way for candy and soda.
A trip to the ice cream shop, a quick stop downtown at the dime store, and swimming in the lake were all fun, but the fishing... the fishing was the best part! It seemed like you could use live bait or lures, go to most any part of the lake, and always have a new experience.
And then the evening campfire with stories about the day, plans for the next, and flaming marshmallows on sticks. The smell of bug spray and suntan lotion, and then the kids upstairs and parents downstairs to sleep with the windows open and the sound of the crickets, while seeing flashing lightning bugs out the window as you drifted off to sleep.
And Lake Odessa today is pretty much the same experience. Only what I didn't know as a child, is that spring, winter, and fall offer awesome fun as well! Whether it be pickle ball, bicycling, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, walking, or skiing, there are numerous options for enjoying the outdoors year round. And when venturing out is just not your thing, taking a dip in the lakeside hot tub, or stepping next door for a dinner and perhaps bowling offer entertainment without venturing too far.
