Rock River Retreat is located in the quaint, sleepy Upper Peninsula township of Rock River, and about 20 miles south of the Eben Junction. This home is settled on a large, private lot with plenty of trees and a lush creek bed, about midway between Munising and Marquette — the perfect home base for guests looking to plan day trips to surrounding towns and attractions.
This eight-person Michigan vacation home is of older construction, but painstakingly maintained with modern appliances and new finishes. The cabin enjoys 18 acres of private land on ATV and snowmobile trails, perfect for hiking and exploring, looking and listening for birds and wildlife, or just enjoying the scenic lawn and porch, complete with a fire pit and an outdoor charcoal grill.
Inside, this two-story vacation rental is cozy and fully furnished, with four private bedrooms and one large full bath. A U-shaped kitchen is fully equipped with utensils and cookware, as well as an open countertop bar. The adjacent dining area features a family-style table with chairs for four. The living area includes a large flat-screen TV with satellite and plush lounge seating.
Bedrooms one through three are located on the main floor, with a fourth bedroom on the upper level. Bedrooms one and two are furnished with a queen-sized bed each; bedroom three has two twin-sized beds; and bedroom four has a single twin-sized bed. There is a sofa sleeper in the family room, downstairs, for 2 additional guests.
Unique Features
Rock River Retreat is the ideal northern Michigan getaway for families looking for a quiet vacation spot with natural scenery and plenty of room to run and play on the grounds. With its 18 acres and private creek access, guests to this cabin can hike, play yard games, cross-country ski, sled and even fish without ever leaving the property. Pets are welcome.
Things To Do
Rock River Retreat is located near a number of beautiful local landmarks and famous attractions, including the Hiawatha National Forest — a popular recreation area with year-round outdoor activities — as well as three of the Great Lakes. Visitors to Hiawatha National Forest can enjoy picnicking, boating and fishing, swimming, canoeing, mountain biking and hiking, and a tour of historic sites.
The Hiawatha area is also home to three historic lighthouses: the Point Iroquois Lighthouse at Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior, Round Island Lighthouse near Mackinac Island, and the Point Peninsula Lighthouse at the tip of the Stonington Peninsula on Lake Michigan. Walking trails and viewpoints surround these local monuments, along with other recreational trails, such as the Bay de Noc-Grand Island Trail — popular for horseback riding.
Some of our other favorites day trips include Sand Point, a popular bird-watching, swimming and walking location, and Miner’s Beach, which is a stunning spot to stop for a picnic and stay to play in the sand and waves. One of the best ways to see the many lovely natural and man-made historic spots and attractions is to take a lake cruise with the 1920s-era Pictured Rocks Boat Cruises — they never disappoint.

Reviews
We stayed at Rock River Retreat for our snowmobile trip this year and we were highly satisfied! The owners were so nice and helpful, and even gave us a heads up when roads were closed since we were traveling far to get there. The house was easy to find, clean, and very well kept. They had everything that we needed, towels, kitchen supplies, and all bedding. The house was close to restaurants and gas stations and on the snowmobile trail so it was perfect! The scenery out the large living room windows and deck was beautiful as well! We even added on a extra night while we were there since we were enjoying it so much ! We will be back, highly recommend! — Amanda M., Feb. 2019
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The setting was truly beautiful. Every thing in the house was neat, homey, and functional. We enjoyed the ability to cook meals at the house. The location worked well for us to visit family in the area as well as favorite beaches in Au Train, Munising, and Marquette, plus Laughing Whitefish Falls, which were very close. — Mary J., July 2018
Beautiful place on beautiful land. Great privacy/seclusion. My friend & I used it as a base for hiking for a few days and felt very cozy and comfortable. Everything worked as advertised. Lisa was very committed to helping us secure the rental and work out all details, payment etc. at the last minute. We look forward to working with her again on our next trip. Thanks Lisa! — Matt M., Oct. 2017
We had a great stay at Rock River Retreat vacation house and are definitely looking forward to coming back. I will also spread the word among family and friends. — Ali, Aug. 2017
Thank you Lisa! We really enjoyed staying there! We would love to come back. It truly is a retreat! The cottage has had literally everything! The property was beautiful. It was so nice to fall into sleep with the river sound! I will contact you when we will be planning our 2018 summer. Thanks again for everything! — Iweta O., Aug. 2017
Rock River Retreat! What a gorgeous home! We loved how this place set nicely off the road. The stream behind the house has a nice and relaxing feel. The home was clean and furnished well. All of us enjoyed this fantastic home. — Steve S., Aug. 2017
We had a great time and Rock River Retreat vacation house was perfect!! Clean, convenient and centrally located for the activities that we did. Thanks so much!! — Ed and Catherine, July 2017
Private oasis stayed in Jun 2017 Very nice family-friendly home in a beautiful setting. A babbling brook out back with a bridge over it, fully equipped kitchen, lots of room for the grand kids, very quiet and relaxing place to unwind at after a day full of exploring the wonderful U.P.! The Chatham co-op grocery store is only a few minutes away and seemed to have everything you would need. No cell phone service or wi-fi, I actually had several conversations with my kids( ages 28 and 30), without any interruptions or distractions, PRICELESS! — Rick N., June 2017
