From Hiawatha's Hideaway vacation homes - We've been in business for 25 years now. Our top priorities have always been communicating with our guests and making sure each cabin is clean, clean clean!

Baldy Lake Cabin is a rustic lake view cabin on 10 private acres in the Northwoods of Hiawatha National Forest. This cabin offers comfortable living accommodations with a “back-to-basics” philosophy and unbeatable natural views from windows on all sides.

You now have the option of using our portable power station to provide limited internet and wifi during your stay; please inquire!

This two-bedroom lake house in the Upper Peninsula features a sand lake shore, an onsite boat dock, and a dense tree line that ensures your privacy and a quiet, relaxing getaway vacation. You can cook out on the grill or fire pit, listen to the loons, and enjoy the starry country sky.

Inside, you’ll find a kitchen with a gas-range stove and refrigerator and a clean family dining area. The camp shower will require you to heat water from our really cool pitcher pump, on the stove and feed it through a battery-operated pump. There is also a unique composting toilet, please ask for details if you are not familiar. You will need to bring your own drinking water into the camp.

This away-from-it-all vacation rental cabin also has a cozy living room with plush armchairs and a screen porch with lounge furniture. There is no TV at Baldy Lake Cabin, however, New for 2023 we have a portable power station for use upon request that will enable internet and wifi if you need this during your stay. If you prefer to not have it, that is fine and will allow you to really take a break from the emails and break up your work-day rhythm. We do provide lots of games and books.

Sleeping arrangements: The main cabin guest room is furnished with a queen-sized bed. The loft is furnished with two queen-sized beds and two twin-sized beds. This home is most comfortable with six guests maximum.

Unique Features

You’ll love the view from this private northern Michigan getaway, especially as you enjoy it from the covered screen porch, bug-free in the fresh air. We keep a fishing boat, canoe and to kayaks at Camp on Baldy Lake, all of which you are welcome to use. We have a large floating dock for fishing and fun. It's large enough to bring a chair out to sit and read or fish. We have a log that juts out and its fun to watch our wild pets come and go. Though Baldy is mainly a fishing lake, there are sandy spots along our private shoreline that are clear and pleasant for swimming. Feel free to explore the property on foot and enjoy the abundant wildlife. Turtles use our fire pit area as a hatching ground during the spring. We might ask you to refrain from bringing dogs along or having a fire in the fire pit during this time. Other wildlife seen on site: loons, deer, bear, Bald Eagles, beaver, white swan, fox, snakes, we have also spotted Moose tracks (not the ice cream either!) and cougar.

Things To Do

Old, two-track roads lead from the camp out into the surrounding area, meeting up with the highway roughly two miles from the cabin and in other places crossing natural hiking paths or ATV trails. Explore the wooded landscape on foot or with four-wheelers, or head out on the water in our canoe or fishing boat to try your luck with the bluegill, large- and smallmouth bass, sunfish, northern pike, perch, rock bass and black crappie.

If you’re using Camp on Baldy Lake as your home base while you check out the popular tourist attractions in the area, you won’t be disappointed. This two-bedroom cabin is just a short drive from the Pictured Rocks, and other treasures in the Munising, Michigan, area. Venture into town for the day, and you’ll be rewarded with fresh local markets, cruise boats, and hand-dipped ice cream.

You’re located right inside the Hiawatha National Forest, so solitude and wildlife views are the name of the game. Other local favorites include golfing, horseback riding, antique shops, music in the park, the Grand Island Ferry and Tours, watersports on Lake Superior, and several “sugar sand” beaches.

Reviews

8/30/24 - From the owners, Lisa and Tom: We have plenty of current reviews on our website and on Vrbo! If you would like to see current reviews please ask and I am happy to direct you to those.
Exactly what you need! This is the perfect get away for some R&R. - Jason Janson, July 2024
Wonderful place, Really a terrific place. Just a fantastic location, quite secluded. Cabin was immaculate with all the amenities, especially for something described as rustic. Great area for bonfires, nice dock and fishing boat. Things I was concerned about before the trip were non-issues. The composting toilet was actually great, shower was super easy to use (never knew I could shower thoroughly with only 3 gallons of water!). The hand pump in the kitchen for water was a little tedious but worked flawlessly. We had plenty of "juice" in the battery powered Wifi for hopping on the internet for texts/emails. There were a few minor things that I would point out as suggestions, while still rating this property 5*. Maybe one more outdoor trash can available. Recommend purchasing either more firewood from the owner, or buying your own somewhere nearby. The $63 in wood we bought that we thought would last the week only lasted 2 nights. And if fishing is your main thing, not the best lake for it. You'll catch plenty of rock bass and crappie, but zero pike, perch or "eating fish" to be found. Still fun to catch them but we bought fresh Lake Superior fish in Munising! Again, all in all a really great place and we highly recommend it. - Michael McGregor July 2023
Picture Perfect! This is a must stay! We booked the cabin for our Honeymoon and could not be happier with our decision! The cabin and entire experience exceeded our expectations! The cabin in nestled in the woods on a quiet semi private lake. It was my first time using a composting toilet, we have been doing a lot of research on "off grid" living and we were intrigued to try the toilet out. I was surprised that it has absolutely no odor, and I was expecting a bucket and saw dust, however the composting toilet is really nice, we even looked up the model and made note for the future, for when we get a cabin someday! So if the toilet is something that may discourage your stay! I would urge you to give it a try! Lisa and Tom were great hosts and were available to answer any questions we had! I definitely hope to return again! My husband and I both fell in love with the cabin! - Jeff Doyon July 2022
Incredible location, It was our first time in the UP and this location was just amazing. It took our breath away, pretty secluded, very peaceful, we also rented a boat which added an additional entertainment. I was pregnant at the time and underestimated the bathroom situation but other than that it was a great trip. Our 5 year old also caught a lot of fish and it was very exciting for her. - Agata S. June 2021
No noise! This was a great escape for my family and for me! We enjoyed our time together without the constant buzz of electronics! This is definitely a place to come back to! - Paul Walske, July 2020
Good place to unplug and unwind with family. Caught some nice fish as well. Hope to go back again. — Mike F., Aug. 2019
We arrived at "The Camp on Baldy Lake" just before sunset on a gorgeous fall day. I knew we were going to love our stay before we opened the door, but on entry, WOW! The wood stove had been lit before our arrival; it was toasty warm and the appointments were so inviting and the VIEW!! Amazing! It was a stunning start to a wonderful stay! We took advantage of the area, hiking and canoeing right around Baldy Lake as well as visiting the Munising area waterfalls and attractions. This is a very "modern" rustic cabin. We loved every minute of our stay. Thank you so much, Tom and Lisa! Can't wait to come back. — Deborah C., Oct. 2018
I don’t know where to start! Our week here was amazing. Not to far from Munising. We enjoyed being without electricity and phone service. Although there is a phone in the cabin now which is convenient incase anyone wanted to get a hold of us. The night sky without really any light pollution was breathtaking! We wished the fishing was better but that’s not in our control. The cabin was awesome, all the basic amenities. Kitchen was good and stocked with everything we needed. Lisa was awesome to work with as well. I’m sure we’ll be back in the future! — Ian B., Sept. 2018
Thank you so much! Such a lovely spot, and we had such a good time, even though we only caught one fish. LOL I didn't really fish, and my sons have less experience than I do, but they still enjoyed it. And we loved the hiking and canoeing, etc. — Colette B., Aug. 2017
We had the most enjoyable getaway. Wonderful for people that want to unplug and just enjoy the sounds of nature. The owners did a fantastic job of ensuring our stay was one that we would remember, so many special touches. We hope to return again someday. Hi Lisa, We just wanted to thank you again for a delightful stay at your cottage. We had an amazing time and hope to be able to visit again. — Pete C., June 2017
We had a blast, most peaceful vacation we have had in awhile. I will be sure to tell everyone of the great experience and amazing hospitality that you have provided. I wish I could come back to Baldy Lake today, lol. Truly an amazing property. We will definitely be back in the future. — Alan O., May 2017
