it's cabin time™ in Manistee
On the picturesque shores of Lake Michigan, you’ll find much more than just Manistee area lodges, cabins and resorts - you’ll also find historic places, remarkable sunsets and friendly people. Manistee offers travelers the perfect place to be immersed in everything Michigan has to offer. From the great outdoor recreation to the thriving, active community, this neck of the woods makes for a memorable cabin time vacation destination. Spend some time with your feet in the sand at one of Manistee’s many public beaches. Take a photo with the Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse that has warned ships for nearly a century. The Manistee National Forest is just minutes from town and waiting to be explored. Or choose to simply relax at your lodge, cabin or cottage in comfort.
If you love rafting, boating or canoeing, you’ve found the right place. Go with the flow (literally) when you drift down Manistee River with one of the area’s many watersport outfitters. The river is also popular for fishing and widely know as one of the best trout fisheries east of the Rocky Mountains. Some restaurants in town are part of the Catch and Cook program; when you take one of Manistee’s excellent fishing charters you can bring your catch to certain local restaurants and they will prepare it for you. Many natural lakes in the Manistee National Forest are kayaking and canoeing hotspots, but don’t forget about breathtaking hiking trails that make it truly one-of-a-kind.
In town, you’ll find the Manistee Riverwalk, nearly two miles of well-maintained pathway giving vacationers easy access to shops and fine dining. Downtown Manistee is chock-full of historic sites, including the Manistee County Historical Museum and the Manistee Iron Works. Take a self-guided walking tour of the entire Manistee Historic District. Only 1.3 miles long, the tour takes you to 28 buildings and sites with an inspirational story to tell.
Regardless of the season, Manistee boasts countless fun things to do. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are popular throughout the county in the winter months, and you can do that right from your Michigan cabin’s front door. Crystal Mountain is just 40 minutes from town and offers 58 downhill skiing and snowboarding slopes. Partake in Moonlight Ski Night, a cross-country skiing adventure under the full moon in the national forest in January and February. With so much to do year-round it’s no wonder Manistee cabins and lodges remain a Michigan favorite destination.
